Democratizing website & app creation for SMEs

From 10 questions to a live website in minutes

Context

Kokopilot

Most small businesses lacked the time, budget, and expertise to go digital. Many relied on fragmented solutions, one tool for the website, another for the app, another for CRM… resulting in high costs, poor integration, and low adoption. Agencies and incubators struggled to serve these micro-businesses profitably, leaving a huge gap in the market.

Kokopilot was designed as an all-in-one builder to close that gap. From a single platform, SMEs could create a website, launch an app, and manage their CRM in minutes. The product was built to remove technical friction, and guide users step by step with gamified onboarding.

By unifying the stack, Kokopilot turned complexity into speed, clarity, and growth for small businesses.

The case

From Complexity to Clarity

Small businesses faced fragmented, expensive, and time-consuming tools to get online.
For this case study, I focus on 3 major problems I solved in Kokopilot, each showing how I turned scattered workflows into one simple, unified product experience.

Behind the scenes

I conducted extensive research with small business owners across Europe, Africa and LATAM to understand their barriers to going digital. Many lacked time, budget and technical knowledge, which explained the high churn in traditional website builders.

To capture these insights, I used tools like Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar and Crisp to map the entire acquisition funnel, from ads on YouTube and Google to the first steps of site creation. This allowed me to track drop-offs in real time and identify friction points.

I benchmarked competing platforms such as Wix, Shopify and Squarespace, and combined those findings with user interviews to highlight unmet needs: speed, autonomy, and trust. These insights directly shaped the product’s onboarding strategy.

Working in agile sprints, I collaborated with marketing, design and development to turn these insights into features. I designed and tested flows, refined CTAs through A/B experiments, and introduced a gamified onboarding journey with “Koko the monkey” to guide users step by step.

The result was a product built on real data and user feedback, with a scalable design system and growth-focused funnel optimization at its core.

Results

  • 10k+ websites and apps launched in less than 10 minutes each

  • 3 languages supported (FR / EN / ES) enabling international expansion

  • –35% churn during signup flow after funnel optimization

  • +40% component reuse thanks to the integrated design system

  • Daily automated lead capture through multilingual landing pages and chatbots

  • Recognized with innovation awards in Paris and Honduras

Reflections

“Kokopilot was my founder’s journey. I learned how to transform fragmented tools into one coherent product, and how design can directly influence growth and retention. Leading the product end-to-end taught me to connect research, UX copy, design systems and business strategy into a single vision. It shaped my approach as a designer: simplify complexity, build trust fast, and scale with clarity.”
